The Argentine striker had played his final Premier League game for the blue side of Manchester against Everton on 23rd May. Agüero did not start in City’s last league game but did come on in the 65th minute when Pep’s side was comfortable with a 3-0 lead against the Toffees. Emotions ran high when Sergio scored twice and showed his class for the final time at the Etihad.
The Argentine is still draped in Man City‘s blue and has some unfinished business to settle this weekend. During 2014, he had promised the Citizens of bringing the coveted Champions League trophy to the Etihad Stadium. If City manages to win the ultimate prize of European club competitions, it will be one bitter-sweet completion for Sergio Agüero‘s commitment cycle.
Pep confirming the Barcelona move
Despite the familiarity of Agüero’s next destination, the man himself has kept quiet to comment on his future publicly. However, during their Premier League title celebrations, an emotional Pep Guardiola spilled the beans to confirm the 32-year old’s departure to the club of Pep’s heart, FC Barcelona. Guardiola broke into tears when talking about City’s living legend.
"“Maybe I reveal a secret, maybe he is close to agreeing a deal for the club of my heart… for Barcelona. He is going to be playing alongside the best player of all time, Messi. I’m pretty sure he is going to enjoy, and maybe Barcelona are stronger and stronger with him on the pitch.”-Guardiola via Marca."
High-profile signings like Agüero and Memphis Depay are both expected to add quality and depth to the squad. It means cutting off their over-dependency on Messi. Such moves could lead Barca to be one of the prime sides to challenge every title in a far superior way from next season. Joan Laporta was not content with Barca’s season. He had promised of undertaking a few big decisions this summer, which he is calling as a “renewal process” for the club.
