#5 Securing Lionel Messi

Finally, the transfer window will not be a success, if the club cannot secure their legend and their captain, Lionel Messi. The 34-year-old Argentine is officially no longer a Barcelona player for the first time in his professional, senior career, and it is getting ever more difficult to retain him. The club were unable to negotiate a contract with him before the end of last season, and now the player is a free agent.

Reports from various media and news outlets suggest that the player will come back to Barcelona, and that a contract deal is close to completion; however, all that means nothing until Barcelona can reduce their current player wages. It is not just about persuading Messi, it is also about being able to register him, the same problem that they are facing with their other signings. It is a tough moment for the Catalans however, they must sign the undisputed, most talented player on the Earth at any cost.

Should the six-time Ballon d’Or winner move to another club, not only will it be a huge loss on the pitch, it will be a financial nightmare for Barcelona as well. Thus, it is an absolute must that they re-sign the player.
