The transfer deadline came and went with Miralem Pjanic remaining a Barcelona player. The club was unable to find a suitor for the midfielder despite plenty of options.

However, Pjanic could still find himself somewhere else sooner rather than later.

According to Sport, options for the 31-year-old remain open despite the transfer window closing across the major European Leagues.

Barcelona look towards Turkey and Russia for a solution

The deadline has yet to close in places like Turkey and Russia and Pjanic is studying offers from clubs in those countries.

Mundo Deportivo report that Zenit St. Petersburg is one of the interested clubs. He’s also reportedly received an offer from a side in the Middle East. However, Pjanic is not entirely convinced on those two options.

Pjanic’s future is in his hands and has the final say as to what his season looks like. The option he prefers at the moment is to stay with the Catalan side until January and then leave during the winter transfer window.

If he does end up staying, Barcelona are going to sit down and try to work out a wage reduction as he is one of the highest earners in the team.

He also faces the possibility of going another year without playing if he can’t find a team to take him on come January. He’s not going to play under Ronald Koeman unless he decides to give him some minutes in the Copa del Rey.

Pjanic’s hope all summer was to return to Juventus and Serie A. Barcelona were confident a deal with Juventus or another Italian team could be reached but as a new team emerged, it was quickly shot down as they either could not pay his wages or signed a different player. Sevilla were also rumored to be interested but that fell through as well.

The options may not be the most attractive to Pjanic but they are options nonetheless. Ultimately, the decision will come down to him. The only thing certain is if he does stay, he’s going to see little to no playing time.
