Barcelona only secured one transfer in the 2020/21 season and that was Sergino Dest. Yes, they did get Fransisco Trincao and another player as well, however, Dest was the only one who was selected by the manager that season. There was a lot of pressure on Dest to perform since he was brought into the club at a time when the club was going through severe financial pressure and the whole board was under tremendous scrutiny from the public. He was slow to get started however, the manager stuck with his decision and he put in some noteworthy performances at the end of the season.

However, after Koeman was sacked this season, he was dropped down the pecking list by Xavi and the manager prefers playing a 38-year-old Dani Alves over him. Even in the most recent match against Real Madrid where Xavi played a lot of players straight back from injury, Dest was not one of them and Alves was started instead. There are also talks about bringing in Noussair Mazraoui or Cesar Azpilicueta so now we must ask the question, what will happen to Dest? Well, in all honesty, there are a few clubs interested in him, most notably Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich eye Barcelona’s Sergino Dest

The Blues will want a right-back who can compete with Reece James while the German club has been interested in the player since 2020. The Player was on their list when Koeman took over Barca and it has been confirmed that the Bavarian club tried to sign him back then.

However, Dest preferred Barcelona and Koeman was able to secure the player. Now that Barca no longer needs him, Bayern is still a viable option for the player. Not only will he be in a club that actually wants him but Bayern is also one of the biggest clubs in Europe. The Germans are still interested in the player, however, no official bids have been made yet.
