Frenkie de Jong happy with the way Barcelona are progressing
Barcelona made a lot of rash signings during the reign of their former president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The Catalans were spending money left and right to fill in their problems and former superstar Lionel Messi even said that the club was wasting money by bringing too many big names instead of looking at the heart of the problem and fixing what was actually wrong. Still, Bartomeu made some good signings and one of them being Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch player was one of the most promising players when he was picked up by Barca and it seems like he is on his way to becoming a club legend himself.
While yes, the player is nowhere close to being called a legend just now, he has been showing some great performances and he just needs to find his consistency. He was one of the star players for Ajax a few years back and under Xavi Hernandez, he can finally unlock his true potential. He enjoyed his time under the Dutch coach, Ronald Koeman, as well, however, Hernandez has a more fluid playstyle which will benefit him more.
Frenkie de Jong talks about Barcelona’s recent success
In a recent press conference, De Jong expressed his views on the current team saying,
"“It’s always a good time to come to Barca. It’s one of the greatest clubs in the world. You can enjoy playing at Barca a lot, because of the way we play,”“Normally we are fighting for the best titles and I believe that next season if we can get some good signings, we can fight for everything.”FC Barcelona Press Conferance"
He then went on to talk about his own performances, saying that he was not particularly happy about them but he was satisfied. He said that he is not in his best form right now however, with time he will improve.
He also mentioned the frequent criticism he attracts by saying that the critics are not seeing the whole picture and are too focused on the statistics of the game. While that is true, at the end of the day all Barca wants is the trophy and if they are unable to win one this season, it will be a disappointing season.
