The Five free agents that Barcelona want to bring in next season
Barcelona was one of the busiest clubs in the winter transfer window. The Catalans brought in the likes of Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They bought Torres for 55 million euros but the other two were free transfers and thus it was overall a good and sensible transfer window for the Catalans. Not only did the team manage to secure these players during a tough situation, but the players themselves were also very impactful. All of the three players are in the main team and Aubameyang especially has been a great signing for them. The Gabonese striker has already reached double figures in terms of goals scored and even Torres has been extremely influential in games.
However, the Catalans do not wish to stop there. They will bring in more players and they will keep their strategy the same. The players they will bring in will mostly be free agents and thus Barca has already started negotiating with these players. Not only will it be more economically stable to bring in these players but there are also some amazing free agents waiting to be picked up by some teams. So, Barca’s five free agents targets are:
5. Franck Kessie – AC Milan Midfielder
Franck Kessie is an AC Milan midfielder who was sought after by many clubs since he will be becoming a free agent soon but, Barcelona was the one who won the race. Yes, he was a target till a few weeks ago but now he has been confirmed and he will join Barca as a free agent next season. The player will have an influential role in the midfield and will likely replace Sergio Busquets in the long run. He is rumoured to have an annual salary of six million euros a year however, it is worth it because the Catalans cannot rely on Busquets much longer, given his age, and they were in much need of a new defensive midfielder. The player is also extremely versatile in nature and can play as a decent attacking midfielder as well.
4. Noussair Mazraoui – Ajax Right Back
Barcelona is in need of a right-back and left-back at the moment. While their ideal left-back is Jose Gaya, whom they will have to buy, Mazraoui, their right-back target might come for free. The Ajax man is on his last few days with the club and he has made it clear that he will not be signing a new contract. The full-back has a lot of talent and thus he is being offered a lot of contracts by big clubs. Barca is not the only one in this race, teams such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also want the player. However, It would extremely beneficial for the Catalans to sign him because not only would they be getting a right-back, they could also sell Sergino Dest, who has not been used much since the arrival of Dani Alves.
3. Cesar Azpilicueta – Chelsea Right Back
As mentioned before, Barca needs a right-back and Mazraoui is their main target, however, the team is also looking out for other players if Mazraoui decides to go to another club. Cesar Azpilicueta is one of the most successful right back in the game right now and although he is 32 years old now, he is still one of the best players in the Premier League and he even captained Chelsea to the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup. He will not be a permanent solution but he could be a temporary fix. The player wants to come to Barca however, Chelsea has a clause that will automatically make him stay back at the London side. Right now it is not sure whether he will be able to join Barca next season or not.
2. Andreas Christensen – Chelsea Centre-back
Barcelona has an abundance of centre-backs so people might think why are they going for yet another CB? The answer is very simple, while the Catalans do have a lot of CBs, only two of them are viable. Gerard Pique is a great defender however, he is getting quite old now and he is just not the player that he used to be back in the days. Apart from that, they have Ronald Araujo and he is the only viable option for the future. Other than that, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti have been pretty useless and thus a new centre-back is highly required. Christensen has a lot of experience and is in the prime of his career, thus he will be a great acquisition by Barca. The centre-back already wants to come to the Spanish giants however, Chelsea is still trying to convince him to stay.
1. Kylian Mbappe – PSG Forward
One of the best players in the world and one for the future generation as well. Mbappe is the best of both worlds since he is a great player but young as well. Recently, it was revealed that Barca might also try for the player since it would be easier to get him for free than spend millions to buy Erling Haaland. However, this is most likely not going to be the case since the player loves Real Madrid. According to reports, Joan Laporta will still offer a contract to the player but this is one guy the Catalans will not be getting. It will be an absolute miracle if he chooses the Blaugrana but given his records, Madrid is where he will end up at.
