Barcelona was always a club known for making players rather than buying them. While clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea were associated with spending a lot of money and buying players, Barca brought players from the ground up using the La Masia. La Masia is considered as one of, if not the best academies in the world. The academy gave us players like Carles Puyol, Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, etc, however, in the new day and age, buying players becomes a necessity and teams cannot rely on only using their academy products.

Barcelona manager wants to sort out the defence before buying a superstar player

Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s new president, has decided that even though money is low in the club, he wants to support the new manager. Financially the club is not in a good position but the manager still brought in three new players in the winter transfer window. Now, the president wants to bring in a recognized goalscorer like Erling Haaland or Robert Lewandowski however, it seems as if Xavi is not too keen on this idea. The former Barca midfielder would much rather have two new full-backs. The current full-back situation in the Catalan capital is not ideal and both Dani Alves and Jordi Alba need to be replaced.

While the legends are still some of the best players in the game, they cannot keep up with the ever-rising momentum of the game and they are being bested in speed by the youngsters. The Blaugrana has targeted Jose Gaya as their new left-back and Noussair Mazraoui as their right back. They also have Cesar Azpilicueta and Nicolas Tagliafico on their mind. As for centre-backs, the Catalans have secured Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen and he will most likely replace Clement Lenglet. Samuel Umtiti signed a new contract with Barca so he might stay on but if Christensen arrives, then Lenglet could be sold.
