Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer, aiming to reshape the team with a younger, more dynamic profile.

Their domestic campaign has largely taken care of itself, with consistent performances putting them within touching distance of the La Liga title, just four wins from their last six matches would see them reclaim it. Victory in El Clásico at the Nou Camp next month could all but seal the deal sooner.

However, one prize continues to elude them. Despite coming close in recent seasons, they have fallen short on the European stage, and with an aging squad, club officials believe the time is right for a rebuild under Hansi Flick.

The Champions League dream still burns large in the Los Cules and specific targets have been acquired with the likes of Julian Alvarez, Alessandro Bastoni and Rafael Leao all linked, but that doesn’t come cheap. Especially if the club is still acting under 1:1 La Liga registration rule for incomings.

Jules Kounde

The French defender appears to have lost a yard of pace, and his performances this season have not reached the level we’ve seen in previous years, when he was capable of keeping players like Vinícius Jr. quiet on the biggest Champions League nights.

The potential permanent signing of João Cancelo and the emergence of Hector Fort and  Xavi Espart as back-ups could further shape the club’s thinking, increasing their willingness to keep with a business sense strategy. This summer may represent the final opportunity for Barcelona to truly cash in on the 27-year-old.

Premier League interest remains strong, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea all monitoring the right-back. Barcelona would reportedly find it difficult to turn down an offer in the region of €60-70 million.

Alejandro Balde

Alejandro Balde’s potential departure would be the most emotionally charged for Barcelona fans, given his deep connection to the club and his rise through La Masia. However, sentiment may not be enough to secure his future. With João Cancelo increasingly trusted on the left and reports linking Alejandro Grimaldo with a return, Balde’s place is no longer guaranteed.

At 22, he is no longer viewed as untouchable in Catalonia, and growing Premier League interest could force a difficult decision. An offer in the region of €50 million might be enough to prompt serious consideration. Aston Villa are among the clubs monitoring the situation, while Chelsea could also move if Marc Cucurella departs.

Marc Casado

This departure arguably should have materialised last summer, when interest from Premier League clubs was strong and the reported price tag looked particularly attractive. Instead, Casadó chose to stay and fight for his place.

That decision has yet to fully pay off. His role no longer appears secure in the long term, with his performances this season proving inconsistent, despite being a regular starter when injuries limited alternatives. In recent weeks, particularly during Frenkie de Jong’s absence, Hansi Flick has opted for the more of a centre back, Eric García, in key matches.

Interest from Saudi Arabia and the Premier League, most notably Newcastle and Chelsea, remains, but his valuation has dropped by around €20 million. Current reports suggest he could be available for €20–30 million.
