FC Barcelona's 2024/25 campaign has been spectacular so far. Already on a brilliant winning streak, the Blaugrana club dominated yet another La Liga opponent recently, cruising past Sevilla 5-1. Moreover, given that the fixture welcomed two of the Barcelona prodigy stars, Gavi and Fermin Lopez, the Montjuic matchday proved to be a perfect game for FC Barcelona.

Are too many midfielders a problem for FC Barcelona boss Flick?

As was expected, the Catalan side received a massive injury boost in the Sevilla matchday, having got stars like Dani Olmo, Gavi, and Fermin back. However, while certainly the return of these ace midfielders has improved Barca's squad strength to a completely new level, it is the harsh truth that out of so many options, only 3 would be starting for the club. Thus, the question arises: are too many midfielders a problem for Barcelona boss Flick?

Having entered the season with very few midfield options available, Barca had to operate with only 3 players, Pedri, Marc Casado, and Eric Garcia, for most of the 2024/25 campaign till now. However, now that all of their injured midfield stars are available, with de Jong, Gavi, and Fermin having marked a return and Olmo close to returning, it seems to be a difficult call for Hansi Flick in the center of the park.

Analyzing the complete scenario completely, it looks quite certain that apart from the number 10 role, the other 2 midfield spots would take much thinking from Flick and his staff. Although star signing Dani Olmo, who had shown glimpses of his best level in the early games of the season, is secured for the attacking midfield spot, the double-pivot position seems difficult to decide upon.

Considering the form ace star Pedri and prodigy Marc Casado have been in, it would be a clear injustice to not have them continue in the spot. But, on the other hand, it would also mean having their superstar players like Frenkie de Jong and Gavi starting on the bench, even if you consider Eric Garcia getting back to contend for his defensive role only.

Clearly, apart from utilizing the four pivot players in continuous rotation, it would be difficult to ensure significant game time for each of them. Thus, not only FC Barcelona's upcoming important games against Bayern and Real Madrid are going to be crucial from the results perspective, but also as to who would enjoy preference in the Blaugrana club's midfield setup. While it remains to be seen, Barca fans hope that, as usual, Hansi Flick comes up with a unique plan to manage them all, helping the club continue winning ways.
