Manchester City are seriously interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. Spanish reporter Jose Alvarez presented this news on 'El Chiringuito TV' and even though the Dutchman is suffering with injury problems; City are analyzing his case and are set to make an official decision this week on a bid.
Replacing Rodri at the Etihad
The only reason that City are signing an international midfielder of that magnitude is because of the crucial space left by Rodri in the central area of the pitch. It seems logical for Enzo Maresca to sign a ready-made central midfielder who possess world class experience and control at the highest level.
City have already signed the prodigy Ayyoub Bouaddi as well. However, the Premier League giants feel that de Jong will complete their midfiled at that present moment.
Difficult decision for Barcelona
For Barcelona it is proving to be a tricky situation; the medical choice by de Jong not to get operated for his injury have reportedly not gone down well at the club, and coupled with the exclusion from the leadership of the team by Hansi Flick, some feel that his future in Catalonia is not very assured.
This would probably be good news to some of Barcelona supporters. De Jong, unlike what some might say isn't being forced out by Barcelona; the player and manager enjoy a very good relationship.
However a midfield containing the likes of Pedri, Rodri, Gavi, Marc Bernal and more, would more likely mean that Barcelona would be more than eager to cash in on an offer from Manchester City should one materialise.
