Barca's worry continues as star midfielder is set to miss the first few matchdays
- Pedri has been ruled out for 5 weeks, until September.
- The Catalan midfielder aims to come back in 5th round of La Liga.
In the 2024 quarterfinal clash between Spain and Germany, Barcelona faced the injury of star midfielder Pedri. In an attempt to get hold of the ball, German veteran Toni Kroos committed a hard tackle on the Catalan midfielder, resulting in Pedri having to be subbed off. The creative playmaker seemed highly upset about not being able to continue anymore in the Euro tournament.
Though Spain went on to later conquer the Euros in 2024, defeating England in a nervy encounter, the issue of Pedri's injury remains the same. Pedri had decided to stay with the national team until the end, delaying his recovery procedure at FC Barcelona.
Pedri to be out for 5 weeks
Now recent reports have arisen that confirm Pedri's left sprained knee and suggest that his injury will hamper his services for Barca during the first few matchdays. Due to a knee sprain, Pedri aims to return in the 5th round of La Liga, which means that the player might be out until September.
This news has further dampened the spirits of the Catalan midfield, as Barca have already been infected enough by the injuries of De Jong and Gavi. Moreover, if the rumors regarding Gundogan's transfer were true, the Catalan club would have to rely on Oriel Romu and La Masia graduates until the return of these star players.
Although the club has been linked with Euro star Mikel Merino, the current situation at Barca pushes them to look for further options. Moreover, Barca might have to cash out for Dani Olmo to ensure they have a good-looking midfield profile. Given the level of fitness La Liga demands, the club must have some options in case they face another injury early in the season.
With the season yet to start and Barca having started their preseason training sessions, the club would hope that they don't lose any other player in the training process. Given Barca's current situation, Hansi Flick would need a lot to do to give the club the headstart in the season they have been craving.
