Barcelona have not exactly been at their absolute best since their last UEFA Champions League victory. They have won trophies since then but their reputation has been somewhat dented as every year since that champions league victory, they started crashing out of the competition in some very disheartening ways.

Atletico Madrid, AS Roma, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich were all the teams that caused heartbreaks for Barcelona fans over the years. Since the exit of Neymar, the attack was never the same and now Luis Suarez has also left for Wanda Metropolitano to play under Diego Simeone’s Atleti.

While Barcelona still have big names like Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, and Antoine Griezmann, they have failed to link up with Lionel Messi the way Neymar and Suarez did.

While Coutinho and Griezmann are struggling to find consistency, Dembele has often been successful at showcasing his talent. The only downside of the French winger is his out-of-field stunts and constant injuries.

The inconsistency of the superstars has allowed youngsters like Ansu Fati to rise up to the occasion. The 18-year-old is undoubtedly a rising star for the future who has the potential to be one of the greats. While the existing players do have the potential to be of great use for the Catalans, the club are struggling without their captain, Lionel Messi.

The Argentine is on the final year of his existing contract and with both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City keen on offering him a competitive squad for his final years, Barca are yet to convince him to stay.
