Matthijs de Ligt is one of the best defenders in the world and a top-quality center-back is the need of the hour at Barcelona.

The Catalans conceded 38 goals this season and many of them came at unwanted times. The former La Liga champions had the La Liga title in their p=own hands but a leaky defense meant that the Blaugrana would have to try again next season.

More from Transfer Rumors

Recent reports emerging from Italy have concluded that de Ligt is uncomfortable at Turin and would be open to a move to Barcelona.

The 21-year-old is a very bright prospect and has done well to establish himself as one of the top CBs in the world. The only talking point here is the £75 million release clause that is said to be in the player’s contract.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo understands that Barcelona would be looking to exchange players with Juve to get their hands on de Ligt.

It is further understood that the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Antoine Griezmann, and Ousmane Dembele could be considered to be a part of the operation.

Pjanic has been pushed down the pecking order at the Blaugrana ever since he arrived from Turin last summer. The 31-year-old wants to succeed at Camp Nou but will not accept a secondary role and could be on his way out this summer.

Coming to Griezmann, the Frenchman has been showing shades of his former best self this year but is certainly not putting in the performances worth his wages. The 30-year-old could be asked to take a pay cut or be sold.

While the Blaugrana wants to keep Dembele for the future, the Frenchman hasn’t renewed with the club yet and his current contract expires in 2022. Should the 24-year-old decide to not renew with Barcelona, he will be sold this summer to cash in on his value.
