Ansu Fati's Barcelona career seems to be over. Despite being given the historic 'number 10' jersey of Lionel Messi, the Barcelona hierarchy has no plans for him in the aquad.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona has reportedly agreed to his permanent departure this summer. Hansi Flick feels that the winger currently does not have the caliber to contend for a spot in the first-team squad.
The decision to sell
The club has decided that bringing Fati back to the club this summer would not be a good sporting decision. Hansi Flick and Deco want to trim down the squad and bring in new players using the funds generated from the sale of the Spanish international.
Barcelona will actively seek out a buyer for the 23-year-old this summer, preferably seeking a permanent move. In the club's opinion, the winger no longer fits the technical profile of Hansi Flick system.

His performance at AS Monaco
Fati enjoyed much more consistent minutes at Ligue 1 than his time in England. The young winger managed to stay fit for the most part and produced good attacking numbers for Monaco.
- Fati scored 10 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions.
- He averaged a goal every 110 minutes, proving his clinical edge is still intact.
- His pass completion rate remains excellent at 94%.
Why Hansi Flick is moving on from Fati
While his numbers still reflect his ability to play for Barcelona. The thoughts inside the Barcelona board are completely different.
Hansi Flick needs pace, explosiveness and pressing that can be maintained without any lapse. His coaching staff believes that Fati is now lacking the burst of pace to win 1v1s against the best defenders.
Furthermore, Barcelona are desperately trying to cut down their wage bill. Ansu Fati remains one of Barcelona's highest earners, and the club considers to use those funds in securing key signings such as Julian Alvarez.
The financial aspect
There is an 11 million buy option as part of Fati's loan deal, and Monaco are satisfied with his performance but not his high wages.
- The French expects Fati to take a significant pay cut to stay in the club.
- Barcelona does not want another loan deal; they want a permanent move.
- The Blaugrana want to eliminate his salary from their wage bill by June 30th.
Ansu Fati has his contract expiring on June 2028, however; his time at Barcelona is likely over as the club waits on AS Monaco to trigger the option, or another club to match their 11-15 million asking price.
The dream is over
It is difficult to imagine what Fati's future could have looked like if he stayed fit. Fati's market value continues to plummet. He remains a surplus player that Barcelona need to sell in order to facilitate the transfers of Barcelona's key targets this summer.
Once seen as the future of Barcelona, Ansu Fati is now a surplus asset. Unless there's a dramatic turnaround in the coming weeks of the season, he will be playing his football away from the Spotify Camp Nou next season.
