Julian Alvarez has addressed the Barcelona transfer rumors. He didn't deny or confirm interest in his services. However, what he had to say, and the tone in which he said it, paints a clear picture of where his head is at.

"We are in the most important part of the season, with very important matches, so I try to focus on that," he said regarding Barcelona's pursuit of him. "And to give my best, to be in a good shape, so that I can help the team and I can achieve very important things here at Atletico."

Focused on Atletico. Not committed to Atletico. There is a huge difference.

Then came the real tell-tale piece of news: reports have emerged that Alvarez's brothers are already in Barcelona and are looking for houses.

Barcelona's position on Alvarez

According to Diario SPORT, one thing is clear among the Barcelona board, "Julian is the signing, yes or yes." There have been debates regarding this, but Deco is convinced that the player is the perfect No. 9 for Barcelona. He is their number one transfer priority for the summer over even a centre-back.

Barcelona are looking to try and finalize the deal for around €80-90 million. Barcelona are optimist that they will be able to sign the World Cup winner at this price. While the optimism on Barcelona's part is genuine, this negotiation will not be simple.

The obstacles around this deal

Atletico de Madrid are not looking to sell their star player. They won't entertain offers below €120 million, whereas Barcelona are keen to limit the deal to around €100 million at max.

The striker still has 6 years left on his contract, which gives Atletico more than enough reason to stay firm in their stance. In order to bring the player to Catalonia, Barcelona will likely need to sell some players.

Why Julian Alvarez wants Barcelona

Julian Alavarez has been a long term Barcelona fan. Alvarez sees himself as the heir to Lewandowski and is a big admirer of Hansi Flick's sporting project.

Arsenal and PSG are both interested in signing the striker, but if he is to leave Atletico this summer, then Barcelona is his desired destination.

In 89 appearances since joining from Manchester City in 2024, Alvarez has scored 40 goals and assisted 13. He has a World Cup in his trophy cabinet, and has the exact profile Hansi Flick wants: press-resistant, mobile, clinical in tight spaces, and is lethal at set pieces.

The house-hunting detail

According to reports from TNT Sports Mexico, Julian Alvarez's brothers are already in Barcelona looking for a house. This is what really changes the nature of the story. One does not send brothers to look for a house if they have no intention of moving. You just don't do it.

That doesn't mean it's a done deal. The price is still very much a problem, and Atletico will fight for him till the end. But that only goes to show that Julian Alvarez has got his mind set on this move.

Barcelona are moving quickly; the player wants it and his brothers are already in the city. The only question is whether two clubs can agree on a price they are both willing to accept.
